Thums Up to this one..

I reallyyyyyy like this one.. This one is the latest offering from Thumbs up with Akshay Kumar yet again.. Shot in Kuala Lumpur... What first attracted me was the production value of this Ad... Its awesome.. Doesnt look anything less than international at all.. and ofcourse when i researched online figured out that its a 3 crore worth film.. Man thats a whopping amount.. (not sure if this is a right amount indicated on the wensite.. but the ad sure does look it)

Its the baby of Leo Burnette's ECD Sainath Saraban and directed by Malaysian Director Farouk Aljoffrey. The idea being a follow up of the same Taste the Thunder.. going to anyextent for your thums up..but the execution like i said is kick ass..gives life to the "Taste the Thunder" funda.. featuring a car chase in which akshay kumar is chasing a thumbs up bottle around the streets of kuala lumpur since the bottle slips out of his hands and falls in this carrier mini truck or van (if i remember right.. not sure)... Akshay kumar sporting his new look which is awesome.. love his acting in the ad..specially this one scene where he mimcks the girl and and yells..he looks devilish in that one..

My favourite in the ad is the Racey yet subtle Background music.. it had me going since the first time i heard it.. its like i now want to see the ad everytime just for the music..

THUMS UP!! to Coca Cola and Leo Burnette on this one :)

IPL and the future of Indian sports

The much talked about IPL.. have been reading a lot lately about this. Read an article by Rajdeep Sardesai today in HT - Reverse Sweepstakes - you can read it here.
Thought for a change it was quiet a balanced article by him and the points he put across are quiet valid ones. adding a few of my points below along with the ones i picked up from him -
  • With the privatisation of Cricket does representation of the country take a backseat? Are we going the American way where sport has become completely privatised rather than a country representative effort because of the inane number of contracts the players are under and the money that is invested in them. No injuries to the grand investment can be made and therefore sports holds a completely different meaning in the United States.
  • IPL is like famous european sport Soccer which is played mostly under clubs. a country representation maybe happens only in a FIFA world cup. My thought isnt that the most exciting of all the soccer tournaments? with all the countries doing a header against each other? Well i think it is..
  • My first thought when i heard of IPL was where is the time for these players to play in something like this. This could mean only a compromise by the players on the nation representation front as they will be bound by contracts.and ofcourse the kind of monies that the sale of these players have attracted for them, none of these inter nation tournaments would ever get them.
  • With IPL now, parents think even sport can be a career but then thats one sport namely CRICKET. what about the rest? The rest including Hockey our national game seems to be living in complete poverty and oblivion.Much has been said and debated about it all and Chakh De India was made based on Hockey but it seems to divert the spirits towards cricket more than hockey. I still wonder what is it that makes this game so popular? well i seem to have not found the answer till date.
  • Like Rajdeep says, its good that cricketers unlike his fathers time are being paid a good amount wherein they can ensure a good living but isnt it now the other extreme? well i think yes it is. there has to be some sort of balance. with the insane number of endorsements they anyways earn zillions (maybe they should trickle down some to us poor advertising employees..hehe..would be good charity they would be a part of ). anyways, What about other sports? they are still as i said living in the same age old world of being ignored and players being absolutely poor: complete blindness towards them and exploitation. Definitely isnt a career option but just sheer passion that keeps sportmen going. thats sad. It's a conflict between two extremes in the same world of sports in the country right now.
  • After all the hoopla, where has been the team spirit or the deadly attitude of the Indian players? maybe instead of fighting racial abuse cases in australia they should concentrate more on what they have gone there to do and that is simply PLAYYYYYYYY!! Indian players have never had it in them for a while now atleast cricketers in the last few years. Its shameful. I guess IPL intrinsically suits the moronic cricketers who are anyways more interested in endorsements than their real job which is playing. This to me is practicing Corruption in its own right by the players no lesser than the kind of corruption practiced by our dear politicians.

Lets wait and watch, Maybe i will be proved wrong, i'd be happy if i am.

Lastly found something interestingly intriguing while browsing.. here goes.. couldn't have agreed less with america for a change :D :-) :-) He He!!

Most Americans view cricket as quintessentially, unfathomably English -- less a sport than an eccentric kind of picnic, and as baffling as wallpaper on the ceiling and "spotted dick" on dessert menus.

Language no bar..

Read in todays HT about Bal Thakeray challenging Lalu to perform Chath at the Marina beach in Chennai. This retort to Lalu's challenge supposedly came after Karunanidhi govt.'s announcement of making tamil compulsory in schools.

My POV, i'm surprised it wasn't cumpolsory till now.My experience having been born and brought up in assam was different. I had to change a lot of schools due to my parents regular movement within assam. From the 1st to the 5th grade i was in an assam board school in guwahati. There both Hindi and Assamese were considered major languages - Hindi because its the national language and Assamese because its the state language. Therefore, from the 1st grade i had to learn reading and writing in Assamese along with Hindi. Then onwards i was in ICSE as well as CBSE schools where in you had to choose between Hindi and Assamese as your 2nd and 3rd language and study both. 3rd language being Hindi or Assamese would essentially be taught from the 5th to the 8th standard and you would be kept back for the year incase you failed in either of the lang's.

Result : makes me fluent in 4 languages, 4th one being a bonus. English, Hindi, Assamese and Bengali (Bonus :-)). Since Assamese script is very close to bengali therefore i can read bengali as well to save my life. And also speak because of a lot of bengali friends i have grown up with.

My point of Contention with Mr. Thakeray would be if he expects only Marathi to be a part of the language tradition apart from English, deleting hindi completely. Inspite of all the regional wars assamese people are intelligent enough to understand that hindi is a one point lang. of communication across the country cuz u cant be learning every language that the people of this country speak in. Hindi has become increasingly acceptable across the country and specially due to the length and breadth of media exposure, media specifically using hindi as the most common language on the nationally broadcasted channels has caught on and therefore people have even learnt hindi through media.

An amazing Example : Nagaland : 23 different major tribes amogst others with 23 different languages constituting the state. None of them understand each others languages and therefore cant communicate with each other. 23 culturaly different tribes, part of the same state.
SOLUTION : NAGAMESE a language used as a one point of communication for the state to understand each other, English being the official state language. Imagine what would happen if each of these tribes started fighting for their own language to be made the official state language? Image the country then which is sooooooooo diverse that even thinking of dividing would make countries and states the sizes of few kilometers. Hindi is the same solution to the countries diverse linguistic assortment like nagamese is to nagaland. And even naga's know hindi very well as they are increasingly geting out of their state for business purposes and even within the northeast since there is so much diversity they either use english or hindi as their languge of cmunnication with the rest of the northeast. This stands equally true for the other northeastern states as well who follow the same manner of communication with their neighbouring states.

Technically my father's language is Bhojpuri and mother's Angika.. two different languages from the same state of bihar because they both hail from different parts of bihar. well do i know the languages .. nope !! i understand them completely but no i cant speak to save my life. Hindi was always the main language of communication i was brought up with.

I think Thakeray needs to take a lesson from the nagaland example, or atleast marathis should, instead of supporting any nonsense the thakeray parivar speaks.

To confess, i can't speak or understand most of Marathi in my 8 yrs of stay in Mumbai except for some stuff i have heard the BEST bus conductors use. Reason, marathis have always been very guarded according to me. They don't invite you to learn or are not interested in teaching you the language. They seem to be always guarding it as theirs, happy to use it whereever possible whether the other person understands it or not (prime eg. all mumbai police stations.). But it is still expected that non - marathis catch and learn the language from thin air by just listening to marathis speaking in it like i did in the best buses. Well all of us are not so intelligent are we?

The reason why i leanrnt Assamese and Bengali because assamese and bengali's are proud of their culture and like to share it with you and therefore it gives you a happy and wanting push to try and learn the language out of sheer respect for them. I don't even seem to know much about maharashtrian specialities in terms of folk and other cultural aspects because its just not as strongly prevelant or exposed to the world unlike the kind of culture i have been brought up around. There the diversity in the culture is very mighty proudly displayed and therefore you know it all.

Marathi Manoos still has a long way to go in terms of learning from their own fellow countrymen and i would also like to add that respect is earned and deserved not forced. Maybe they should give it a thought and then they would find the solution to make people automatically respect their culture. Even though i guess that wouldn't help Thakeray parivars political ambitions much :)

wah kya perfect answer hai :D

Over a random chat with an ex couleague.. i think i got the most simplistic yet the most hard hitting description of our dear industry.. Advertising.. i love it so much that i had to share it with all.. :-) pasted below for your perusal.. LOLLLLLLLLLL

vyomah: ya man advertising is a whole lotta poop that one loves to throw at ppl, and act like we are in a huge shahrukh production, overacting and what nots
ya man when this fake life gets to me i am quitting and looking for something else :d

Pepsi..Ye Dil ab NA mange more :-(

Whatz up with JWT and Pepsi.. They are on a rampage to come up with one campaign worse than the other.. i do not remember the last time i saw a mind blowing campaign from them.. Where are the days of Pepsi yeh dil mange more?

They are trying too hard to combine both youth as well as celebrities in one broth.. well and the result is that the broth tastes reallyyyyyyyy bad..yuck.. and the once amazing baseline experts have now become scary terminology inventors.. WHATATOPPCA.. and now YOUNGISTAN... i mean this is really tough competition isn't it..i m sure you can see sarcasm oozing out of every part of my body.. but really.. i dont have an option here but to react this way and i can see a lot others reacting the same way as well..

I feel they are taking the young bit a little too far.. for starters.. if u r a young brand then you got to be maverick in your ways of potraying it as well.. why are you so cliche?? the ad where the basic story line is that this dude tries to get into his girfriends room and the brother discovers and then he has to make some bahana and there comes youngistan.. man common who are you kidding here?? doesnt this sound like a story line used for the umpteenth time in any youth related situational description like ads or movies.. i can think of hundreds of them from time immemorial.. its the most cliche way of depicting onscreen romance stories.. and well JWT supposedly after having rejected some 20, 30 scripts prior to this comes up this great new story to attract the so called youth bandwagon.. you think people are such mindless fools here??just adding a set of celebrities.. doesnt really do anygood.. becasue well if u r targeting the youth then these guys are a tough nut to crack and they are not just going to blindly fall in love with pepsi because there is a geeky looking shahrukh or a ranbir and deepika in it..

There is a lot more to youth if u want to become an iconic youth brand.. youth is about the attitude.. just doing this YO MAMMA its MY CAN.. really how many are you even going to connect to?? instead i guess a shahrukh kajol and rani dancing on top of a pepsi truck on good music and aishwarya and aamir doing their bit and remo doing the yehi hai right choice baby were better formula's and would work even today.. because if u dnt know how to cash on the youth and if your idea of youth is only youngistan out of all things.. maybe pepsi should take some lessons from its my MTV.. they have managed to transform way better than these guys would ever be able to..

Colaba.. Aaaah so delightfull!!!

Colaba is my ultimate love in mumbai..i can go on forever about this place because i have so manyyyyyyy memories attached to the place from my college days.. but then this one is out of sheer love for the place and how it makes me feel so in place and in love with myself..

Over the years colaba has become my second home.. i have spent hours of days in that place.. its one place where i like to be on my own and not with a jing bang..refreshes you.. somehow the place inspires you to look into your soul and find yourself.. it was my hangout when i would be questioning the world.. it still is.. its right in the middle of the big wide mad world but it still feels so much detached from it.. thats one place you dont have to think who you are or why.. cuz everybody's about their own business.. nobody cares.. you can really be yourself.. its such a vibrant collection of people.. its like a mini worldmap in a small locality of mumbai.. :-) oh i so love those reclusive walks on colaba causeway and my hours spent at my favourite bookshop.. SEARCHWORD.. run by this old uncle who has recognised me over the years and gives me books on discount out of sheer sweet kind customer service ways that he has adopted. i love his shop.. its so cosy and welcoming..

Well Colaba is a mall in its own right.. The only literally Regal Cinema hall of the olden times still alive.. keeping fingers crossed.. u never know wen the adlabs and the pvr's will pull it down to0 just the way they pulled down metro and sterling.. its most days out of all that i hate development and advancement.. its screwed a lot of the best things about this world and places and sterling was definitely one of the most upsetting landmarks that was brought down.. Do people even have a choice in all of this.. well i guess no.. its like on tv u r served bad to worse programmes and then trp's claim that the saas bahu serials run a lot.. well what choice does the public have in anycase? to chose between bad or worse right?

Anyways to come back to Colaba.. its a place beautiful with its colonial architectures.. and the road side market on causeway where u bargain and get cheap jwellery to clothes to shoes to watches to perfumes to everything.. u name it and u have it there... at the same time the same amount of branded shops also lined up in causeway.. from branded international eating joints like Mcdonalds to the ever popular Leopold's and Mondegar. The Bade Miya's to the Taj mahal hotel.from the nike's to the addidas to the levis et all.

Its the intermingling of the class with the mass all at one place.. When i say a mini world map what i mean is the coming together of a huge number of foregn tourists from across the globe.. any country you name and you will find a citizen from there doing the rounds of Colaba and juggling down some beer with the jukebox in mondegar..The indian roadside vendors taking the foreigners for a ride while selling their items.. to a pimp selling "what do you want? virgin .. experienced.. foreigner.. indian.. anything you want you will get".. to " do you want marijuana?" .. man its a coloured world there.. its inane the kind of people you bump into there to the kind of experiences you would inevitable have there..there is just sooooooo much to see there that its a never ending affair you end up having with the place...

It beats any of these high end malls.. Every thing that a mall provides you , you get in colaba.. yet its so diverse and the way it is presented is so much more interesting than any of these boring mundane malls can ever provide you.. outing ka outing and shopping ka shopping.. bohot filmy duniya hai ye colaba ki magar yehin zindagi hai bohoton ke liye.. :-)

It's V - Day yet again..aargghhhhhh

Its the Pukey day yet again.. I would like to call it that because the effect of this day seems to be geting even more nauseating with each year.. Saw Archies a few days back.. its disgustingly pink, red and only hearts and teddies.. so much of them that u dnt even want to enter the shop .. wonder how people get in there to chose something from that crap there..

The worst is that the kind of potrayal of the day across the media is such that the mass perception of the day has become "the day of expressing love to your boyfriend or girlfriend.." Rarely do people realise that its a day of love in general , could be for anyone or anything as well..

Well for me it was day long stoppage at the hospital yet again with mumma.. though most of it we spent watching AAJ TAK while waiting.. daily news from 9 in the morning till 4 in the afternoon became just headlines every half an hour (the period for which i was before the tv watching that channel).. and it was just valentines day across their programming..

The List of topics on Valentine programming are as follows -
  • Exposing a internet website high end prostitute supply chain for valentines day in Mumbai..
  • Parents in mumbai are employing detectives to keep a track of their kids love lives, etc..
  • Two Wives One Husband - The story behind one man who seems to have married two women and yet again one of those inane stick and hair fights on tv for their sidey husband and the so called sad exposure on V-day..
  • Kajol - Ajay devgan, Roop Kumar Rathore and wife, Bappi lahiri and wife.. such and such couples singing songs and talking about their love life.
  • Students in DU campuses.. how are they celebrating it.. well it seems none of them were on campus.. but bunking college and painting the city Red or Pink whatver the hell it is..
  • send love sms 's to your partner and the same would be displayed on the channel.. They were all such filmy and bolywood msgs.. Do people really think the idea of love is so shallow?
  • The one to be the icing on the cake was ofcourse Rakhi Sawant Slaps Boyfriend on Valentine Day - To cut the story short.. a full fledged publicised break up 3 days back between rakhi sawant and boyfriend Abhisekh.. Today Abhisekh lands up in Rakhi's house with all the possible news channels.. to ask forgiveness with a bunch of flowers and teddy bear.. Man it was such a sidey affair..it was a good half an hour entertainment.. Rakhi's histrionics.. Third Grade rasta affair.. Abhisekh singing songs like a pussy.. Rakhi slaps him as well.. And all of this very obviously looked fake and cooked up for publicity stunts.. it was so obvious because they sucked at their acting and knowing their history won't be surprised that they would have done it for publicity on their own.. or if aaj tak would have approached them for some Valentine Trp ratings..

My head's pounding after the whole days TV bombardment.. not that i had a choice.. because it was a public place and the patients were all watching with enthusiasm the entire drama unfold..i wished all through that i could change the channel..

Its inane bombardment of absolutely ridiculous stuff.. and really is this love all about? How commercial can even love become.. its dusgusts me to even think of it.. it makes it all sound shallow and cheap...aargghhh.. brands and channels and basically the entire marketing community can Stoop down to any level to sell themselves.. without having any kind of public interest in their mind.. Well like they say "It's business we're talking about and profits is all that the language of business understands".. Sad :-(

Shah Rukh the mysterious Brand

Somebody please tell me the mystery behind this man's success.. really!!!

Points about him to be noted..
  • can't act for nuts.. makes every character shahrukh khan and not the other way round.. except for i think Swadesh..
  • Arrogant to the T and announces it proudly to the world..
  • part of that karan, farah kind of fake gang who think that they are the end of bollywood and everyone else is a fool...
  • His histrionics and attitude bore me to death and reason why i never watched Om shanti Om but i think i am an exception..

All the above points taken into consideration.. this man rules the silver screen and otherwise as well.. And he carries himself with much panache and style like no other.. people say whats great about him is that he is confident but i feel he is over confident..I know he has worked hard.. but dude i really feel this man is very lucky couldn't be what he is otherwise..He has got a business sense and he is just too good with that..

Was watching the press conference of the soon to begin quiz show "Kya aap paanchvi paas se tez hain" which will be hosted by Shah rukh on star plus.. the way he carried himself through the press conference was amazing.. he kept the journalists laughing and inspite of his sarcy comments and the make fun of people way he still manages to do it so subtely that no body minds..When the press asked the star head as to why shahrukh as the the host and no one else.. then without blinking his eye lid the dude replied .."because he is the only actor in todays generation who clicks as much with an 8 year old as he does with an 80 yr old" .. and to come to think of it i think thats true.. maybe because of the fanatical fans of shahrukh.. who i think are the biggest idiots.. but keeping my point of view aside.. the facts remain...

He literally endorses every brand..being very loud about the fact that if he gets money for it then he will endorse no matter what..

He has his own production house Red Chillies.. He just knows how to sell himself..

But somehow i feel that inspite of his unacceptable arrogant behaviour he is so accepted across.. wonder why? must be something that he must be doing right or is it just plain and simple luck in life.. somebody give me some views so i can get what he is all about really...

Life ya Zhamela??

This one on Gavingvoid kind of triggered it off.. Its so perfect.. atleast for how i look at it..

What are we doing to ourselves in the name of advancing.. feel we are going back to the stone age eventually.. technology is advancing beyond we can catch up with it.. is making our lives our connections to the world even more in human.. making us learn to live lives on our own.. don't think we were made to just be on our own as a race itself..

India as a country has always been known for its cultural integration, the aspect of family bonding and therefore people were much more happier till a few years back.. with the ongoing obsession of mimicking the west we are turning into them.. more and more firangs are coming to india to adopt spiritualism .. to be more connected to life and we are going their way.. they by now have realised that their way of living life isnt the best way.. and we - indians who were always good at it are now leting go off that one strength.. increasing depression, divorce, crime and blah blah.. the standard of life.. everything is going for a toss.. people are getting more nuclear as far as family's are concerned.. parents are being dumped in old age homes like never before.. Whats the point of this mad rush and development if we are actually going backwards into the pit of evolution..

These are thoughts which always get triggered everytime i compare my 16 yrs of life lived to the hilt in ASSAM and 8 years of life in the mad MUMBAI (or any big metro life so to speak).. i mean i do love b'by and as i am being a little mean in terms of wanting to be in this city for career purposes since staying in assam the industry that i have chosen does not exist there..so interest versus life is what u have to choose.. though wonder why should one have to reach to a point like this where u r made to choose..

We seem to be leading our lives more like a joblist these days.. "oh time nahi hai usse milne ka".. "kya mere paas kam kaam hai din me ki main uske yahan jao".. I thought we were working to live a happy and prosperoous life and not not the other way round.. wat is with people and making their lives seem so screwed.. Well it is screwed because of the changing working culture where there really isnt a time but if in that mess u dnt find time to follow your passions and interests then i guess we are going to go mad and become older way before our time and die out of sheer desperation and depression of not living a good life..i know i m making it sound really dark .. but i feel that it is as dark as it sounds

Do i really want to be a part of that in human uninteresting future which i am striving so hard for? rly dnt know.. its a tussle between an easy lazy unhealthy yet addictive lifestyle versus a beautiful healthy high maintainance happy lifestyle..

Big Bazaar yani Big Zatka..

Big Bazaar to me literally means a big amount of inane marketing :-)

On a sunday today and was really amazed at how dad had the patience.. :D but looked like he did.. went to the Great India Place ( The largest mall in Noida).. its hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... Insanely huge.. cannot possibly do it in a day.. i havent seen a mall as big as this one.. in anycase we were out on a hunt for a bed for me and a book shelf as well.. along with shoes for me.. i did buy a shoe.. though the rest is history...

I realised one thing for sure today when we entered Big bazaar.. the idea being actually to go to Home town which is also a future group vernture for home furnitures, furnishings and blah blah..You just end up picking stupid stuff, all kinds of stuff.. maybe useful but not necessarily required at the moment... Big bazaar says they ensure you save.. but do you? because you enter , you see schemes.. you buy shit loads of stuff which u dont really need.. and wuallah.. there u r out of that place with empty pockets and trollies of stuff loaded into your car..there is just so much stuff.. and all kinds of stuff that anyone is bound to go mad..and u just go oh this one and this one too and oh this as well.. pick it all up..i want this whole place... They have become a sort of one stop shop..

i liked what dad said.. he was like nowadays living is so expensive..not because u cant afford it but unlike 10 years ago places like big bazaar ensure u over spend on things most of the times u dont need.. and other way he says to look at it is all the rich buggers who have so much money.. they find an outlet to use that money as well..

one more thing which i have always noticed with big bazaar and i think its a damn neat strategy is the fact that they place a lot of stuff next to the cash counter.. while u are waiting and u definitely wait for 10 minutes on an average in a big bazaar.. u tend to pick up half the stuff that u see in those trollies next to cash counter..

I was loving a lot of stuff in there .. like Hometown.. beautifully done bedroom setting and kiddy bunk beds.. but man they are expensive or what.. i saw this fridge which cost 2 lakhs some thousands.. leather sofa's 1 lakh some shit....dude all your dreams down the drain.. its too much.. n u say its middle class.. is it really?? i feel its crazy..

Finally one show from the entire mall and crazy amount of people and therefore run out of that place.. and then go to sector 9 where a huge amount of carpenters sit selling the same stuff at half the rate... i went there.. finally ordered a nice customised bookshelf and also ordered a nice low bed..and now i m ready to get a nice floor arrangement done once its ready..

I bought Clay :-)

Yes i am talking about the clay we used to play with as kids in school.. making faces and vegetables and loads of other mad things out of our own dear imagination..
Wondering why i bought it?? well my nephew came over today.. and happened to gift him a whole set of stuff like jigsaw puzzles, clay, crayons, colouring book et all.. man i wanted to play with it as much as he wanted to..
So couldn't resist myself and went and bought myself some clay as well.. :-) though dunno if i will manage to do the really cool stuff i see a lot of people doing out of it.. i still am very 3 yr old at it.. but its fun none the less.. colouring and sketching and using colours has always excited me.. i have a set of these things in b'by always and whenever i feel the need to go back to the drawing board.. :-) i always do.. its a good time pass and a very very good engagement.. rather than the same old adult crap that i do ... man i want to be a kid again.. it was so much fun :-) .. the gifts were so much more interesting than the clothes and stuff now..
i still get more excited when someone buys me colours and stickers and colouring books than any thing else.. i remember this one time my friend bhinee having seen my obsession with these things had got me this set of colouring books from her college trip to khandala.. man that was probably the best gift anyone got me in college.. :-)

Book Worm

Well Don't know if i qualify as one but i think i am wormish enough in terms of being addicted with the idea of collecting books.. it's like.. books have a magnetic affect on me.. a lot of my hard earned money does go in buying truckloads of books.. Though i must admit that i am pretty slow with them.. As of now my collection is big enough for me to be opening a library since i have been collecting books since i was a child.. but i guess i have to be a member first of my own library since there are loads of them which i still have to read..I guess its time to buck up..

Therez a World BOOK FAIR going on in Delhi's pragati maidan and on my way back from mum's Hospi visit i just couldn't resist but enter.. its madness... The book fair is distributed in 12 halls of pragati maidan and i could by the end of it manage only 2. It's too tiring.. Did buy some books namely..

  1. A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess
  2. Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
  3. Ulysses - James Joyce
  4. Anton Chehov's collection of Plays
  5. Madam Bovary - Gustave Flaubert
  6. Collection of Stories by Nobel Prize winners like - Pasternak, Faulkner, Hesse, Mann, Yeats, Shaw, Camus and others..
  7. Last but not the least a set of some 5, 6 hindi books.. novels and short story collections of famous Hindi writers for my Grand mother.. :-)
Have bought over 20 books in the last one month and managed to read only 3 out of them.. I guess i seriously need to buck up now :-)

Alag naam magar problem same same..

People from the state of Bihar and U.P. seem to be facing the same problem yet again in and this time in Maharashtra. Fondly or not so fondly called the BHAIYA'S in Maharshtra.. DESWALI's in Northeast specifically assam seem to be wanted out always.. and these are the two states i know about.. I guess they face the same demarcation across the country..

Well is there an end to the Bihari Bhagao Andolan across the country..i atleast seem to see no end to it.. I was born and brought up in Assam.. where regionality is imbibed in every assamese's mind and bihari's (as well as Bengali's) seem to be their greatest threats .. wonder why?? inane number of attacks on migrants specially bihari's and bengali's have been a trend in Assam over innumerable number of years now.. I remember in school telling my dad how i felt like an NRI would feel in the USA maybe.. i did not belong.. to the point where even my closest friends till date dont shy away from commenting on my origin inspite of the fact that to me my origin has been assam..

And now it seems to be a trend in Mumbai as well.. In either of these states don't quiet get the rationality behind kicking these poor souls out because a majority of the population or maybe almost all are actually the labour class.. now thats maybe an added advantage for these states.. Yes bihari's are supposed to be taking on to the UPSC and all those seats as well but what i dont understand is its a free society.. whoever works hard for it gets it.. Assam has always been the Quota loving state and even amongst my own friends i hardly know any who have managed to venture out of the state on merit.. its either hard core donation or the grand ASSAM QUOTA (and that's a back up they always know they have therefore pushing them all the more to not bother puting in their 100%)..

Even with Mumbai.. the city is ruled by the rich gujarati business community above any other community but they add to the economy monetarily for maharashtra therefore they are never targetted..why isnt an Ambani targetted for building his great refinery in jamnagar and adding to gujarat rather than maharashtra.. the service class or the poor ones are always the soft target because maybe their contribution is too puny for any great importance to anyone..

how does people coming from outside have to do anything with your capabilities.. i m sure marathi's can also read and write as much as any one else can.. therefore something called geting a job with one's own merit seems to have gone out of everyone's head.. what do poor taxi walla's have to do in this.. if they are kicked out today i think 90% of mumbai transport in terms of cabs will be a full stop creating an even more confusion in the city.. they aren't any harm infact they are just an added help in the city infrastructure..

Well there never was any logic behind the raj thakeray's of every state in this country.. be it the ulfa in assam or anywhere else.. it's few people who want their agenda for political or monetary purposes and its the common man and in this case biggies like Amitabh Bacchan who have to suffer this nuisance..

Wedding Mania

And like my friend Shivani says "the Wedding Mania continues".. i m really amazed at the number of wedding news that i have got in the last few months.. it's inane.. everybody around me just seems to be getting married.. be it school friends, college friends or office mates or just any friend.. :-) just everyone is getting married..

and the best part is that everyone's wedding news just seems to be such a sudden event.. everybody suddenly seems to be deciding over night that dude time to get married and there goes out the Shocking alert on ofcourse now the most advanced way of letting the world know.. Albums on Orkut and Facebook..

Wonderful i say... maybe its finally reaching that age in life where i guess its but natural to hear people getting married but man this has been an overdose.. seriously.. and i dont see an end to it.. lol!

breaking newz

This one came again from the capsule show of mtv called MTV it sucks (not very sure of the name)..hosted by cyrus sahukar.. he was on the bit about breaking news..

how the real breaking newz item was actually an important earth shattering or country shattering newz which was of that importance.. had to be telecast asap putting a full stop to all other daily usual routine news.. Gandhi's death was a breaking newz because it was the country's loss.. war times were the greatest breaking news periods for radio channels as well as tv..

but ofcourse offlate with the influx of uncountable number of news channels.. breaking news is salman khan makes 40 calls to vivek oberoi.. breaking news is abhisekh and aishwarya's wedding for 2 continuous days on all channels.. for the mere trp's the news channels are willing to make anything a news.. sometimes wen i watch zee news and the likes then i wonder whether i m watching travel or living or a news channel..the hindi news channels are the worse.. they put to shame such a beautiful language wen they start yelling and screaming and making everything sansanikhej khabar... and there is still no end to newer news channels making its entry..

just the other day .. the meterological dept predicted that delhi was going to go down to ZERO degrees on friday.. very first thing in the morning you see aaj tak yelling in their trademark hindi "Dilli jum gayi" .. they get someone online from the met dept.. and the guy outrightly denies it ans says some channels are broadcasting that its zero degrees but the real temp is 4. some degrees.. the channels seem to have measured temp under the grass which is not correct.. temp measured in open air.. and ofcourse aaj tak not leting him speak any further and diverting his attention to something else... but it was hilarious how they make a mountain out of a mole hill and don't think twice about the dishonesty that they have brought to this once upon a time prestigious and important profession..

like sahukar says until next time you screwed up news channels STOP SUCKING!!

it's my MTV..

Off late Mtv has been quiet my favourite.. not that it has suddenly turned into the most awesome channel.. VH1.. it's brother is still my fav.. but its just the my mtv package that attracts me..

happened to visit the mtv office as well 2, 3 months back.. its every office goers delight.. gaming with each other on comps through lan..fooseball, pool, tt table, ps2.. its a dream office.. and its so vibrant and chahal pahal.. i liked it.. met some one in programming whose a sweet heart.. just to give me career advice even wen he didnt know me..

coming to mtv itself.. think it has managed to maintain a much more respectable image over its counter part Channel [V].. Due to a mix of its mass and niche strategy.. they play songs which the masses will love and have programmes which are a mixture of highend and mass programming.. the vj's are a success in their own right.. vintage mtv properties still going strong.. and mature people unlike a bunch of headless goons on channel v (the latest being vj bruna).. its appaling how channel v is still running.. bikini babes are its only high point even though i hear even that isnt saving the channel much as its struggling big time in the race..

Nikhil is a DJ as well now.. Cyrus broacha.. evergreen.. Cyrus sahukar.. someone i always liked who is thought to be sensible enough to be called to be part of pannel discussions on news channels and stuff.. i think its a pretty neat bunch.. rahul khanna... even today remembered as the super succesful vj of mtv rather than for his acting skills. maria goretti.. shehnaz..malaika arora.. they 've had a good talented bunch in there (not forgetting to mention ranvir and anusha.. though they are not definitely my cup of tea).. and there's is a very enthu bunch.. constantly striving to do kick ass stuff.. and its one of the most self sufficient channels i have heard or known of in terms of producing its shows inhouse (unlike most other channels who outsource their programming to production houses).. having its own studios and all of that paraphernalia...

ROADIES need a special mention.. in its 5th season now.. going strong.. not bad considering a music channel has managed such a fan following for a rather stupid reality show..

keep rocking mtv.. and u guys must go check out the website (www.mtvindia.com) .. for the creative ones they let u create your own mtv logo.. my mtv in the true sense.. and its quiet engaging i must say..even i tried my hands at it ..
