Boss ya No Boss

Ok my ever riding confusion.. What is it that is better? A good Boss or a Bad Boss? I know most of you would say obviously a good boss.. But this post is about a little more than that..

I dnt know how many of you have had the earth shattering priviledge of having a Good Boss.. Well i havent had none.. at all except for a 2 week boss who i learnt things that help me till now..so thats the kind of power i am talking about. And no this is not a frustration venting post but infact a questioning or rather wondering would be a better word to use..Just a question i have been asking for a while now..and this specifically is from the mindset of a start up in the working population. Start up meaning anything from 1 day to your entire working career..

speaking of the broader picture there are namely two kinds of bad bosses (there are many more types if you go into detailing) you would encounter.. and i would like to tag these types as BAD..

  1. Knows absolutely nothing about the job, is least interested, wants to keep shirking off the responsibilities..basically you are in a soup most of the time..

  2. the kinds who know loads.. but are the bitchy or b**t***d political types who just want to show off their power.. one can appreciate their knowledge but only wonder why they wouldnt pass it on to you.. and besides whatever little you try on your own is spat upon by them.. they are the noisy kinds who step into everything that you do and have a judgement about it.. at the end of it all you just wonder.. am i even worth an ounce..

from my personal experience with the above two types..

No.1 .. Well for the first 1 month you think .. dude i am in a soup or what and then you eventually after crying buckets and having sleepless nights.. tell yourself.. Dude care a fuck man.. i got the opportunity to just be the king in the situation.. not that i have a choice to be any lesser.. but why not make the most of it.. It works but you got to ensure you let the super seniors know that dude u r really working under a dud..Downside of such situation.. you're not sure what you learnt is the right way to go.. its all guesstimation of solving work related problems..you become a topper in Crisis management but maybe not really sure to guide others how and what it is.. so you go and tell the next entrant.. swim child.. dnt know how else to teach you the basics..

No.2... Man you really question your capabilities by the end of it.. its like someones just trying to encroach your space.. what the F*** ..you are psyched out more and lose all the so called King qualities all of a sudden because you are suddenly questioned every second and you suddenly remember the song by STING -

every breath you take, every move you make, every bond you break, every step you take, i'll be watching you..

Whoaaaaaa now thats a little Psychotic but that becomes your way of life..When you ask for help.. how can you ask for help?.. thats a crime..basically its a catch 22 situation and the final result is DUDE GET OUT OF THAT PLACE MAN..lol.. thats the only solution i could think of..

Reminds me of the Naukri.com Hari Sadu ad.. because yes that ad has cracked the most importnat aspect of our lives.. common think of it.. 80 out of 100 of us would leave our jobs ultimately because of our great bosses.. renumerations, career questions they all stand right but they will always somehow be there and you can manage to find a way out.. but the ultimate desperation which none of these other two issues can create is our dear Own BOSS.

Its a bit unnerving.. but keeping my fingers crossed.. Soon to be working again after my LONGGG breakk.. this time i hit the jackpot for a change..

MOVIE MANIA

Well i have been on a rampage off late as far as movies are concerned..
Movies that i have watched offlate -
  1. 27 dresses
  2. We own the night
  3. Vantage Point
  4. Race
  5. Juno
  6. Atonement
  7. Bucket list
  8. The last king of Scotland
  9. and you must have already seen the rest in my previous posts..it continues.. with each day..Sunday was a rampage too.. think i watched like 5 movies that day.. Not without my Daughter, Aitbaar, Ek Hasina Thi, Bombay, Chak De.

Well though the first 5 movies along with the others mentioned are either a theatre watch (which is a medium which will always remain my untimate favourite)or a TV watch, Juno, atonement and Bucket list happen to be watched through my latest discovery.

Bumped into this website called www.watch-movies.net. This website basically helps you watch movies online.. You got to have a fast broadband connection otherwise you would be buffering till your next life..Well i happen to have a good enough broad band connection.. and therefore managed to watch 3 movies in 2 days.. man i am excited or wat? every possible movie on that website.. including few Hindi ones too..just that you got to figure the right movie print amongst the various version that they have.. some might be quiet bad..but for being able to watch the greatest collection of movies without paying shit when most of the times you would only be searching for the Cds or DVDs in India.. its a great option even with an average print.. Though the 3 movies i watched were extremely watchable..very good quality print..

I think it has been my greatest discovery offlate :)

Caught my eye

Few ads that have caught my eye off late..
  1. Virgin Mobile - a much spoken about launch.. the ad to me did not do justice to the LAUNCH OF A BRAND in the country.. the present ads and thoughts and routes could have been done a year down the line when maybe the brand had been accepted and settled.. I didnt know what the brand was at all? its a new brand u r launching.. when i saw the ad.. my first reaction was what is it? is it a phone or phone connection?? the ad didnt solve the purpose.. ofcourse with the kind of media budgets.. it creates the intrigue therefore in the brand name itself.. and therefore when i did go out i saw stalls of virgin movile all over and people going and enquiring there.. but i don't think the ad did any justice in the said matter.. it was the clients money speaking in the case and ofcourse there is a lot of first timers that the richard branson brand is offering..so service itself will finally speak for its success..
  2. Fevicol - another one in the fevicol ka jor lineage.. a humoungous joint family like an entire village in one building of like 4 floors.. one asks.. "aaj kisi ne tulsi ke per mein pani diya hai?"..so many members in the family and therefore the question triggers reactions amongst everyone of passing on the question as well as answers of i havent i havent and then finally a small kid says.." theke hai main phir se pani dal deta hun".. Very fevicol but nice i thought..
  3. Future Cards - Aaj se Kharche Ban gaye kamai.. another kick ass concept of a credit card from Kishore Biyani.. A credit card which serves sort of like a loyalty card.. unlike other credit cards where your loyalty points only get you some shitty gift of a pen set and the likes from the credit card company.. in this credit card your points accumulated can be spent on the brands that future cards has associated themselves with like their own lineage of big bazaars and stuff along with other hotel brands, food, clothing, etc.. a gammot of such brands.. Its a killer concept of a card.. But yet again another launch tvc which does not clearly explain the concept. just says "karche ban gaye kamai".. having had done intensive consumer groups on credit cards for a pitch.. did realise that people in general are mighty averse to credit cards and credit card companies.. they use it all for convenience but do not have a good perception of them. The loyalty point system provided by each card is a joke for the users because it brings them some stupid kingfisher inflight kind of gift bags at the end of spending thousands.. therefore at the launch both for virgin as well as future cards i feel explaining the product itself would be the right way as they are killer products.. ofcourse once again Mr. Biyani will not leave any stone unturned as usual..
  4. Rediffmail - Crap , Crap and some more crap in that one.. "ek rediffmail bhej ke to dekho", you are killing me.. it could be any other email service or the postal department for all i care with the all fight for the rights crap.. senti and emotional is ok.. going overboard is not ok..
  5. Airtel dots - Again airtel with their usual obsessive emotional papa crap.. a bit too many of those one after the other.. and nothing mind blowing at that.. i m bored, aren't you?
  6. Bajaj Pulsar - the musch talked about ad.. let me be biased to this one in terms of the music.. man i want to watch this ad again and again and again.. whoever has done the music for this ad is killer.. the execution is ok i feel.. because i feel the angles except for a few top shots are not fun.. the road seems to take away your attention from the stunts because the way it has been shot the road is a super distractive element. but then honestly i am of the opinion here of the bike companies taking the easy way our and always pegging them as stunt machines or the AXE effect machine which enables you to get the hot chicks attention on the road.. common you got to better than this.. dont think the people are mature enough to notice the stunt warnings issued in the ads specially the YOUNGISTAN(he..he) lot..otherwise we would have the paparazzi and obsessive fan following of actors et all across the world..BAJAJ AVENGER - FEEL LIKE GOD is still my ultimate favourite..

I think i could go on but thats it for now.. please ad to this list of the latest caught the eye if any u have..

Weekend Movies!!

Spent the weekend chilling with a bunch of friends at one of their places. was a mad weekend.. one of the things we did was watch movies..here's 3 of them that i would recommend incase you havent already seen them...
  1. APOCALYPTO - Its a movie directed by Mel Gibson.Brilliantttttttttttttt.. I would say u need BALLS to make a film like that.. Its Gory but man its some vision and so well executed with a perfection. When the Mayan Kingdom faces its decline, their only shot to sustaining and bringing back their prosperity they think is human sacrifice to their gods. Jaguar Paw, a young man captured for this sacrifice flees to avoid his fate. Its just mind blowing but for the weak hearted this one can make you feel dizzy. its all blood and gore.

  2. REQUIEM FOR A DREAM - How the lives of four people spiral out of control due to their addiction to drugs. Its a Trippy movie.. love the music, and how the director visually represents the druggy hallucinated mind. WARNING : can be quiet a depressing movie because its quiet dark. try and detach oneself and watch it. It tends to have an effect on your mind.

  3. BHEJA FRY - out and out laughter riot. Vinay Pathak at his ultimate best.. its a crazy flick and in the true essence of the film title vinay pathak manages to just about do that(fry your bheja in a good way that is). you really do feel glad that u dont have to tolerate someone like that in real life..I love Vinay Pathak. He is just too brilliant.

also offhand can think of TRAIN SPOTTING if u liked requiem. Another crazy flick.

99/-,199/-, 999/- only syndrome

i came across this marketing syndrome as a child while buying my school shoes from Bata..its always been known for its weird ass prices 199.99/- or 299.98/- or watever that is i remeber.. they would go down to even the last decimal. Well most marketers dont go down to the decimals but ofcourse almost all go the end the 99 way..

I dont know how much it works for people.. Psychologically it seems it does the required work..A lot of research says that people are now immune and understand the marketing tactics but i question do they?

Somehow inspite of knowing it wen i see the 3 before the 99 i still feel i am in 300's and saving a hundred by not reaching the 400 mark.. weird and untrue as the perception is it does happen to me all the time.. and i know every consumer in a store understands the logic but it still attracts your attention..

So i guess it solves the purpose for the sellers in anycase 80 times out of 100..

CHANGE

A thot that came to my mind.. CHANGE - the word of all our lives.. Change is one thing that remains constant in our lives..Ironical ins't it that the word itself defies it's own meaning..

Change can necessarily get all kinds of reactions evoked, for most times its a negative, scary bad omen thing.. but its also good a lot of times -
  • Change when not under our control gets us anxious and edgy and that would be the most obvious definition of change that would come to our minds when thinking of that word.. A sort of fear for most part because u never know what change occurs in your life and therefore turns the course of your life completely.but sometimes its also welcome when from a long stretch of negative and unwanted existence u suddenly see the light at the end of the tunnel..CHANGE IS ALL OUR LIVES.and most out of all would probably like to delete this word from our lives because it goes against man's nature to control things and therefore the existence of science and discoveries and technological advancement, education, total evolution et all.
  • Change at a very physical level like change in the setting of your room, or commodities or place (not always a welcome change though), change in seasons are things that one necessarily agrees or is ok with. The reason behind newer technological discoveries, systems of marketing products, etc because we constantly seek change in it all otherwise life would be so boring we say. I for one am not for change in place of settlement.. Maybe its me and my personality type who is very emotional, introvert and edgy..with the amount of movement that i have bared since childhood.. in a lot of ways it helps because u get to see the world and meet lot of people but at the same time it completely uproots you from your base everytime and its a new beginning again.. not everyone is smooth with the reboot button and i happen to be one of them and therefore permanent or long term movement scares the hell out of me..But travelling is a different ball game all together.

For most parts we are generally if not for the smaller things in life struggling with this word.. It takes a lot to enjoy and welcome change.. once in a while i do push myself to that.. and guess what u do enjoy life a little more than usual.. ofcourse its a little difficult to hang on to that attitude but try, try until u succeed.havent we all heard of the spider story? maybe we could emulate a bit of it once in a while too..
P.S. - I m sure u would have noticed the CHANGE in my Blog template, reason being i was soooo bored of the previous one. I am liking this change.. :)

Wow what a victory!!!!

Ok as it must be clear by now, i m not the greatest fan of cricket. but will confess that i have been watching it since i was a child.. not a follower but someone who watches it once in a while.. and today was one of those days along with the sunday match.. wat a beautiful 2 match were they.. i have been a great fan of sachin for whatever the reasons maybe since i dnt even remember wen.. maybe since i got this huge poster of him wen i bought my addidas shoes in the 7th standard.

Sachin played like the master of the game and sometimes honestly its a little weird if thats the right word to use to see him grow from the time when he probably was the youngest in the team to todays team in which he was the senior most player.. Aah! how time zoops by..

What i liked about todays victory was the fact that for a change the indian team was very determined and the young talent really showed that they had the guts to believe. It seemed very different from the team which i have been watching for all these years.. felt good... and M S Dhoni.. think he will go a long way as a captain.. he has the right attitude , fearless and gets his boys all charged up..

Must add that i was watching the match at the hospital and like any other time.. these days thats the coolest place for me to chill.. :D anyways jokes apart.. its amazing how on an otherwise quiet day , the hospital was buzzing right from the sweepers to the ward boys to the counter admin to the junior to the senior docs all giveing it a stop before the tv screen on their usual parading around.. Also how people who dont know each other just go chattering away to glory sharing how much each of them knows.. its amazing how this game tends to bind the entire country.. atleast there is one thing on which the country is together atleast in celebrating..

So team India Well done at beating the Kangaroos who have been jumping a little too often for anyones liking :)

P.S. - the lastest i heard on television was Salman, sunil shetty, nana patekar et all supporting raj thakrey.. wats up with these assholes?

The Bollywood STAR brands

Ok this ones not about which actor endorses which brands but about what each actor as a brand stands for. Just a random thought so penning it down below -
Shahrukh Khan - Irreverent, its cool to be me, tech savvy, modern, suave, money talks, ego, extremely sharp and smart businessman

Aamir - Intellectual, i'm the only one piece like me, cute, sweet, likable, dignified, hard to get
Akshay - confident lone riser, self made, martial art, action is cool, doing it myself is cooler, risktaker, once casanova
Saif - the little fool, guitar strumming, pataudi's wannabe firangi son, casanova, a little over the top
Salman - Macho, shirtless, humble yet arrogant, media bad boy, Cares a F*** attitude
Himesh Reshamiya - Cap collector, defies every singing rule by singing from the nose, melodrama, the tapori star,
Ajay Devgan - serious, reclusive, husband to the most popular shahrukh lady
Hrithik - Dancer, body builder with the muscles, humble, family man, hardworking, more birbal looking rather than akbar in Jodha Akbar :D
Amitabh - the angry old man , blink and you still won't miss him :) that one goes for shahrukh too (with all their ads), the bacchan parivar (ekta kapoor's true inspiration), dedicated, respected
Abhisekh - papa's beta, good actor but under the shadow of too many famous bacchans like amitabh and now wife aishwarya, teeny bopper at his 30's, fat chubby and look ugly in most ads is the motto, popular nonetheless
Aishwarya - Plastic, green eyes, most beautiful woman in the world, fake, act once in a while beyond looking pretty, wear a business suit while representing India on the Oprah Show, American accent dropped in for garnishing purposes, Aishwarya rai BACCHAN
Kareena - hottest property even when she was a flop, lucky, anorexic now, saif's latest muse, speaks her mind, i love myslef, i do what i want unlike the ever sweet docile elder sister karishma
Priyanka - Sassssssssy, sexyyyyyy, well spoken, miss world
Preity - Bubbly, pink, the girly girl yet tom boyish, smart, brave they say, now a business woman

Well thats a few i could think just off the head right now.. i m sure there are tonnes more i am missing out on.. do add to it :)

coca cola is back tooo...

Hrithik Bhaisab is back with just out of the bed look going very wrong..he hasnt looked so bad according to me in quiet a while..John Players did the mighty coolest job of making him look so hottttt.. :) but anyways coming back to where i was..

so ya Coca Cola is the latest entrant into the battle of the Cola mediocrity on television these days...My post on thums up came out of sheer relief from the youngistan attack but even that was a thums up on the execution more than anything else..But Cola Cola goes for a toss too..Whats with all these guys..

"Jashan Mana Le" supposedly the next level idea post THANDA becoming synonymous with Coke.'The idea of the new campaign is tell the audience how the magical power of the beverage brings celebration into the lives of its consumers" says Venkatesh Kini, vice-president (marketing), Coca-Cola India (Quite a rutty statement don't u think. been there done that millions of times by millions of brands). My view : in Anycase Think its a decent enough idea in terms of showing these young lot doing their nightly rasta joint rounds and having a coke with their food junk whatever u wana call it.. Maybe on close look or thought it would remind us all of our nightly outings now and maybe even more during college..quiet a relatable experience maybe for a lot of us (definitely a way better way of catching the eye of the youngistan planet) but i feel the whole treatment of the idea itself leaves you so cold.. Maybe could have done a much exciting and fun job out of it.. but with the drab and sleepy looking hrithik it doesnt do much good. i think 3 out of 5 times you will miss this ad inspite of it playing right infront of your eyes. its so missable :)

Offlate coke obviously seems to have gone on a senti and emotional way (remembeing sar utha ke piyo or was it the other way round ? :D) and therefore even this as has this really slow and subtle jashan mana le track which again as i said doesnt hit u at all.

Do let me know what u guys think.. I am just kind of numb with the neverending cola advertising experience these days. i dnt think i can really decide where it all stands now.

Coke's making the next ad with Aamir supposedly. 5 down (Shahrukh, Ranbir, Deepika, Akshay and Hrithik)..lets see wats the next celebrity ad got in store for us.
